Microsoft EEIP
Programme privacy notice.
Version eeip-privacy-2026-11-v1. Last updated 2 November 2026.
Who collects your information
I AM AN ENTREPRENEUR (Pty) Ltd ("IAAE", "we") runs the application and selection process for the Microsoft EEIP, delivered with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). We are the responsible party for the information you give us in your application, under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
What we collect
- Your name, position, email address and mobile number, and those of the person taking part if that is someone else.
- Information about your business: its name, province, industry, customers, years operating, revenue band, employee numbers, ownership profile and bank.
- Your answers about your challenges, goals and interest in the programme.
- Where you heard about the programme, such as a campaign link or referring website.
- Management accounts or financial statements, if you choose to upload them.
Some of this is special personal information under POPIA: the share of the business owned by black people and by people with disabilities. We collect it only with your consent, to check eligibility for a programme that focuses on black-owned businesses and to report on the programme at business level. Answering is part of applying, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.
Why we use it
- To check eligibility, and to review, shortlist and select businesses for the programme.
- To contact you about your application and its outcome.
- To administer the programme if you are selected.
- For monitoring, evaluation and reporting on the programme.
We only use your information for these purposes. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for unrelated marketing.
Who we share it with
- GIBS: if you are selected, we share the participant's contact and business details so GIBS can onboard you and run the classes.
- Microsoft and GIBS: programme reports that describe applicants and the selected businesses at business level, such as province, industry and revenue band. These reports do not include personal contact details.
- Service providers who host our website and database under contract with us. They may store data outside South Africa, with protections that meet POPIA's requirements for cross-border transfers.
How long we keep it
We keep applications that are not selected for six months after selection closes, then delete them. Uploaded documents of businesses that are not selected are deleted once selection is final. If you are selected, we keep your information for the length of the programme and for as long as our agreement with Microsoft requires for programme reporting and B-BBEE verification, then delete it.
How we protect it
Applications are stored in a secured database, and uploaded documents in private storage that is never publicly accessible. Only named IAAE reviewers who are signed in can see them, documents open through links that expire after five minutes, and every view and change is logged.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. You can withdraw your application and consent at any time by emailing us. Withdrawing does not affect anything we did lawfully before you withdrew.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.
